The mixed baby lettuce in the plastic bag may be a bit wet and/or stuck together because of how we wash it and then pack the bags into the boxes.
You should take it out of the bag, wash it in the big bowl (or just fill up the sink). Then 'spin dry' it, and store in an unsealed plastic bag in the fridge. In this condition, it should stay fresh for about a week. If you don't have a spin drier, get one. It could be the best $10 you spend all summer. The basic idea is that you want to keep the greens cool and moist, but not in standing water.

I had found this technique suggested online and it does work. I couldn't agree more about the spinner, got mine at Homegoods and don't know how I lived without it.

Totally agree with this method. We usually use a plastic type of bag lined with a paper towel to store fresh greens. It absorbs moisture very well.

When I have received the bagged lettuce in the past I spin dry it then let it completely dry on a towel before putting it in a sealed bag.

I also spin it dry and lay on a towel under the ceiling fan. I store it in the spinner and it's fresh and crisp for two weeks. I always store left over salads in the spinner too to keep fresh.
