The fields are looking great, many of out fall crops are sizing up nicely. the crop of the week is Brocolli. Remember to keep it cool and moist so it stays perky. With brocolli, and also various roots and greens, I like to wet the crop, shake off the excess water, and put them in fridge in a paper or plastic bag- or in crisper drawer.
There are also loads of greens this week. We are putting so many in your bags that you might want to separate them out into a few different bags when you get home. This gives you a chance to fluff them up in case they got compacted in transit. The 2010 Summer CSA share distribution will continue for 4 weeks after this week. yes,we are happy to be able to offer you guys a 21 week season this year! So the last week of distribution will be Oct 26,28, and 30th. New this fall/winter, First Light Farm will offer a "Winter Share". This is not part of the summer shares, ie, you have the option of joining. We are working out the timing, price, and other specifics now. Basically there will a handful of distributions. I'm thinking of one for Thanksgiving, one for winter solstice, and a few more in Jan/Feb. crops will be roots and greens and cool season/storage crops like winter squash, potatoes, leeks, ect
