7/29/2012

This week’s share consists of potatoes, onions,
cucumbers, zucchini, carrots, daikon radish (looks like a smooth white
carrot),   fresh parsley,  and mixed baby lettuces (in the bag).

Coming soon – basil, peppers

Fruit Share starts this week! --- Blueberries and Peaches.   The fruit share will continue each week  until the summers CSA ends in late October.  The types of fruit will vary from  week to week, according to the seasonal harvest. (for example, apples come
later….)

so, tell me...i know that there are tons of kale recipes out there, but how have you used them besides in soup or as chips?...i have julienned them and added to green salad -- not bad...but sauteeing leaves them chewy...

My 11yr old son who is a picky eater LOVES my Kale recipe. Sautee onion and garlic in oil oil until soft. Remove the large veins of the Kale and break apart the kale like you would lettuce. Throw the Kale in with the oil, add a 1/2 cup of chix broth and either fennel seed or fresh fennel. Keep it covered and simmer for about 20 minutes - the Kale should become soft like spinach. Add a can of chix peas and let it simmer a bit longer and serve....I also add kosher salt and red pepper flakes for a bit of a kick...I serve it as a veggie with dinner or as a main meal. Hope it helps!

I've been enjoying the CSA! Have been blogging about some of the things I've been doing with the veggies, such as this post. http://cookingchat.blogspot.com/2012/07/csa-week-5-beets-squash-and-baby.html
